Default Lifting an 8ba flathead

I am about the lift a fully outfitted 8ba. I am going to pull 4 corner intake bolts and use those lift points to secure my 4 chain adjustable lift tool plate with 4 grade 8 bolts. Thoughts on that before I do it?

Lifting it by the carb bolts isnīt an issue so for strenght it will work just fine.

That should work fine. I've pulled plenty of Flathead engines using a homemade flat plate bolted to the intake deck with at least four threaded corner holes. I've also done it with chains bolted to those same corners with intake in place.

However, I've always been skeptical of lifting a complete, fully assembled, Flathead engine using (3) 5/16" carburator mounting studs/bolts, especially if they are mounted in an aluminum intake.

We still use the "old school" method of a stout chain with end tabs placed under two head nuts. I made it over 60 years ago, and it has never dropped a fully assembled engine, even with the transmission attached.

No doubt I went overboard, I made a 1/2" plate, holes to match exhaust manifolds, removed my Reds Headers, welded 5/8" bars bent U shaped, using engine balancing lift working alone was perfect lift out of my engine run test stand complete with transmission, working alone I seem to take more care I guess, I didn't want to remove head bolts, intake bolts, water pump bolts etc., see pic
