Default Speedway Motors; 8ba aluminum heads available...

Speedway Motors currently lists 2 sets of aluminum 8ba heads in their catalog;the Offenhuser heads @ $1,500 and the Edelbrock (65cc ?)
heads @ $840.
Is there a specific difference between them, other than the pure esthetics of the name, its location in the castings, and how they would look against each other? I am in need of a set of heads for my 8ba build, have advertised for a pair in the "wanted" section for months and not a single response - and I currently know of no other source for a pair of aluminum heads.
Comments, suggestions - I'm open to it all. Thanks, Steve

If you're going to spend the money Try Navarro's.H&H Flatheads makes them. Just checked and they are out of stock. You might try them anyway as they might be making a new run.

I put Offy heads on my last 8BA with a .040 bore & Isky Max 1 cam. I didn't think it ran any better that it did with stock heads. Just me & my .02 cents.

When I see the hi prices of these parts, I remember the time I was at york Pa back in the 80s. I came home with 3 or for sets of alum heads and 4 or 5 2,3 and 4bl intakes, and only spent a few hundred bucks. But I had sold all the books I had with me. My wife was very happy.

In 1963 I bought a good used pair of OFFY 8BA heads for $5 that also included a Weber alum flywheel and a 4 x2 intake. Those were the days.

I have Navarro´s and Offy´s , but if I would buy heads now I would choose Edelbrocks.
They are thick and workmanship looks great. You need special studs for them.
In my Offy´s chamber cc´s where mismatched....

As advised on the H.A.M.B., check by phone with the suppliers. I'll bet they're ALL out. The possible exception might be for Offenhausers (which explains the huge disparity in price).

Bottom line? Get the Edelbrocks if you can because of price and spark plug fitment.

I even checked Amazon. They are "Temporarily Unavailable" except for what appears to be a single drivers side head. For it (or a pair when they become available), the price is now $953.

I have a set of Offenhauser 59AB heads for my current project. I have been an Offenhauser dealer for many years but with their change in management and production problems they are no longer the company they were when the family ran it. I will have the machine shop check them for mismatched combustion chambers and for proper clearance.

I wonder how many sets of 8BA aftermarket heads are currently on backorder?

Sounds like an opportunity for our Chinese friends to me.

I'd try to run Edelbrocks - supposedly they're getting their flathead heads back in production. I waited a LONG time for a set of 59AB ones (like 1.5 years).

I'd give Summit a call and see if they actually believe their quoted ship date on these and I'd have them validate it with Edelbrock itself. Summit is showing a June ship date (if ordered today).

If they hold that price, that's a hell of a deal compared to the Offenhausers. Relatively speaking.
