Default Shift lever position / modification

The driving experience in my 38 is generally superb; however, the shift lever is just too close to my thigh in the first gear position - at 6’5” and 20 stone, not much I can do on my end. Any non-destructive / easily reversed work arounds out there ? Thank you,
