Re: Anyone know the numbers?
According to one source, there were 5,936 Deluxe coupes and 5,411 Super Deluxe coupes. There were also 1,606 Special coupes.
They were built from September 12, 1941 through February 10, 1942. Last edited by Herman Munster; 02-26-2011 at 12:24 AM. |

Re: Anyone know the numbers?
Besides the 3 pass coupes that Herman mentions,
Ford also produced a couple of sedan coupes, which were 5 pass coupes. Up to the production cutoff date of Feb 10, 1942, they made 5,419 model 72-A 5 pass deluxe sedan coupes and 13,543 model 72-B 5 pass super deluxe sedan coupes. .

Re: Anyone know the numbers?
Saw one in a forsale ad, a basket case. I've not ever had the pleasure of seeing one. Thought they might be a little rare in numbers. What engine(v8)would they come with from the factory?

Re: Anyone know the numbers?
I have a 1942 Deluxe business coupe(77A) that needs a total restoration but is fairly rust free. When I bought my first 46 Tudor in 1973 the owner gave me a front clip from a 42 Deluxe business coupe he and his brother made into a stock car.I think that may have been the fate of a number of them. There seem to be a few Super Deluxe coupes that have survived but I can't even remember the last time I saw a picture of a Deluxe or Special.221 engine with the crab style dist cap was standard.

Re: Anyone know the numbers?
How about numbers on the rest of the line? Sedans, Delivery's, Panels, trucks, etc?
I have always wanted a '42 someday. I almost bought a front clip for my '46 tudor I used to have, but decided I didn't need to put anymore money into it and sold it.

Re: Anyone know the numbers?
Hi Fordbarners, I just picked up this 42 Ford business coupe 4 weeks ago.
I was wandering what the production numbers were. I knew they were pretty low given the short production run. Last edited by shaffer50; 04-25-2012 at 11:19 PM. |

Re: Anyone know the numbers?
Shaffer50,Your car looks like a 1942 Deluxe coupe which would be the same as my car.Cannot see the bumpers but from the factory they are the same as a 1941
Super Deluxe from the factory. The Deluxe uses painted outer grille mouldings instead of the chrome plated ones on 42guy's car.The Super Deluxe used the bumper that was used on the 1946's and had fender mouldings and the trim around the windows. What state are you located in? |

Re: Anyone know the numbers?
1942 DELUXE, My 42 is a deluxe. I'm in western PA. This car is all original
except for the paint. Runs great. It was a Wyoming car originally. Thanks. Last edited by shaffer50; 04-25-2012 at 11:19 PM. |

Re: Anyone know the numbers?
shaffer50,My car is stored in my Dad's barn in Erie county so maybe they can say hello someday?Bought mine from a fellow small Ford dealer when I lived in Iowa.I've
gathered up alot of NOS parts over the last ten years for it but it will be a major undertaking.Engine was missing when I got it and I'm going to use 59AB in it.Hope to get started on it this year. |
