Default Windlace Removal / Install

Good evening,

Help needed please with the removal, and future installation, of windlace.

The section in question is on the upper half of the hinge side of the doors on my '30 coupe. This strip of windlace runs the entire height of the door. The lower part is sewn to the covering on the door panel. The upper half is in a channel formed by the steel edge of the door being bent 180 degrees, with the opening (slot) facing the jamb when the door is closed.

When I try to pull it out the windlace tears, leaving the flat (tab?) section in the slot. I could did out the torn off part with a hacksaw blade I suppose, but how does the replacement get installed? Is it glued into the slot?

Thanks, Mike

The upper part was sewn to a cardboard strip. It was a clean slip fit that typically stayed put on it's own. Some original cars had that little tab (very top of the channel) bent in slightly to pinch the very top end of the windlace assembly.
