Went to start the 30 & the starter stuck in the run position, Good thing I forgot to turn the key on. Jump out of the car & hit the starter with a rubber mallet & it stop. What Happen ??

Starter bendix stuck.
Several causes I can think of:
1. Broken bendix Spring
2. Bent starter shaft
3. Not allowing the engine to quit turning over between applications of the starter.
4. Bolt came out of starter spring.
5. Broken bendix.

There is very little on any stuck starter than cannot be cured, or at least improved, by a proper whack with a hammer.

There is nothing inside the starter to cause it to keep running. The switch is the only thing that will do that. It is either the switch itself or something is causing the rod to hang up when it is pushed and not allowing the spring inside the switch to return it to the up (off) position.

This is all assuming that you have an original starter and switch and not a aftermarket starter or a modified system where you are using an external remote solenoid.

Take the switch off and take it apart. Nothing to it. Fix it, or replace it.

Isn't there a mention on fordbarn somewhere about a trick of putting a supplemental spring under the button on the starter pedal to ensure the rod is pulled up?

Try to find a good original or a replacement made in the "old days".
A lot of the currently available electrical replacement parts are made "off shore" and are very poor quality.

A little electrical contact grease on the contacts will keep them from sticking, keep the oxidation down, and improve the conductivity. It can be used on any contacts, electrical connections, or connectors.

Most likely you don't need a new switch. Simply take it apart and clean up the copper contact with some sandpaper or a fine file.
The switch will weld itself together sometimes. Happened to me the first month I had my A. Kind of unnerving to say the least.

Funny it happened to Dirtrack "first month"... same to me like within the first month. I had the old crank handle under the seat and smacked it. Stopped it. Happened twice more in a week, new switch on top of starter and that was that 7 seven years ago.
