Default F-2 Starter. Problem

A friend who is rebuilding a a 1950 F-2 just called me to see if I had an extra starter for my 36 Cabriolet that he could borrow. I did not have one but can anyone tell me if a 1936 passenger car starter would work on a 1950 truck?

The engine has been rebuilt and assembled with oil in the crank case. It is not ready to run, but he did want to turn it over to get some oil pressure going to lubricate crankshaft, etc. He also put some MMO in the cylinders. Problem is the starter runs for a few seconds then stops. He disassembled the starter, cleaned up brushes, armature etc. But the starter still acts the same.

Any ideas what could be causing this problem? What else should be done to a newly rebuilt flathead before it is run for the first time?

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,

Joe

yes, your starter will work on his engine.

His rebuilt engine may not be grounding his starter properly. Remove the paiint from the starter mount & try again.

using 6V cables??.....or using 12V to spin the starter would make the engine spin faster....if all is well.....Mike

Is the engine spinning over strong, then stopping?

I wonder if he put in too much MMO and it's hydro-locking?

Remove the spark plugs and turn it over. Should be able to create some oil pressure that way.
