Skyliner
Not mine but thought this 54 Skyliner would be of interest here. Its one of our Canadian Meteors and a rare one too.

Re: Skyliner
I find it interesting that while the text says it has a 255 inch flathead (interesting on it's own), the car in the photo definitely has "Y" block "V8" emblems.

Re: Skyliner
I was wondering the same. I realize Candian built Fords in 1954 still had flathead V8's, but thought they still used the old V8 emblem on the fenders, and not the Y-Block V8 emblem like this car has.

The carb and manifold might be switched from a Ford as this Meteor in the ad does not have the typical Holley "teapot" carburetor that my Merc engine has. Different linkage for the throttle and Mercomatic too.

Re: Skyliner
Except for the base line cars, '54 Canadian Fords had the 255 CEAC engine too. Also, both Fords and Meteors still had the same frame and suspension as '53, no ball joints until '55, and no six cylinder Canadian Fords until '56.

Re: Skyliner
The Meteor was a FORD car that was dressed to sell as a MERCURY car. Canada had this split in dealerships that gave rise to Meteors and Monarchs so that Mercury dealers could have a lower priced line and Ford dealers could have a higher priced line. It kept the split dealerships equal and happy. This made for some interesting combinations that never happened in the US.

Re: Skyliner
My 52 Mercury seems to be unique in that it does not have Mercomatic displayed anywhere. It is the only one I have seen with "Automatic" high on the right side trunk lid.

Re: Skyliner
Here are some photos of the Mercury Meteor Skyliner in question. As you can see, these Canadian Meteors have the Mercury Dash. that is why they also have the larger Mercury Flathead V8. |

Re: Skyliner
This 1954 Mercury Meteor Niagara sedan now resides in Australia. You will notice that it has the correct V8 Badge on the front fender. This car belongs to a friend, but is missing the correct 1954 Meteor Hubcaps. At present, it is fitted with standard 1954 Ford "dog dish" hubcaps. If anyone can help, please let me know and I will pass on the information to the Owner. |

Re: Skyliner
If I had wanted a new '54 Victoria, I would have gone to Canada to buy it. That dash really does it for me!
