My new purchase is a '48 M47 Pickup with an 8BA engine. Would this be the standard engine for a Canadian built '48 M47 Pickup or should the engine be a Canadian built flathead? A little confused.

Not sure about Canadian but in US the 8BA type was standard for '48 model year in pickups.

I have a 49 F1 with a Mercury engine, surely not original, when I tried to do some research, I found where Canada used a lot of leftover military WW2 engines in these trucks and they were painted light brown. My best guess would be anything is possible
