Default Hood weight

Does anybody know what the weight of the 1947 Ford coupe hood would be? I want to put a stronger spring or air spring in the linkage to see if it would hold the hood up higher.

I thought broomsticks were invented to solve this problem. Jack E/NJ

The spring loaded hood support only allows the hood to be opened to the stop point on the support.
If you want to go higher than that, then the support would have to be removed and another method to hold it open would have to be used (broomstick)
If you want an appox. weight of the hood set the front of the hood on a bathroom scale and double that weight.

I do have an extra broom stick for occasional use. Thanks for getting me thinking straight again! I guess my time would be spent better working on the windshield wipers.
Also, my wife won't let me bring the coupe into the bathroom to weigh it.

Thanks.

I hope that this statement is not really meant to be serious.

No, not serious. I calculated the speed required for the Coupe to be able to break through the brick wall to get to the bathroom and I think it has what it takes. But the real problem was the trees in the way. The jackpine would be no trouble but that one burr oak has just gotten way too big. And the neighborhood has an Unreasonable Noise ordinance too. Tunneling is just too expensive with the bedrock being granite if I wanted to try getting into the downstairs bathroom. But then I just recalled that the wife brought the scale from the downstairs bathroom up into the bedroom. My bedroom. I think it was a message about my weight. I don't dare say anything about her cooking. The nicest thing I can say about that is she only lets me eat once every three days. Lots of water though. I miss the beer. What were we talking about again?

Thank you for your tolerance.

Before replacing the hinges and springs I used an aluminum handle from a Swiffer floor duster to hold the hood up. It had much more class than a wooden broom handle.
