Default Help with Heater wiring switch to power

Hey all,

I’ve searched old posts, great instructions, but the one thing missing is where to connect the Power and Ground to the accessory for the ignition.

Any help would be wonderful!

Thanks, I was hoping to bring it back to the ignition or circuit breaker. I think the instructions I found give me the terminals I need thank for responding.

A lot of the old cars have an ignition switch lever near the key for the ignition & steering lock. This switch was really only suitable for turning on the ignition and the instrument cluster. All other items generally have a separate switch and a fused connection to the power from the battery as it comes into the cab on the fuse or circuit breaker panel.

As the others mention, MORE INFO IS GOOD.

Thank you for responding. Not sure why I missed that :-) 45 Ford 1/2 ton Pickup.
I believe it goes to the Red and Black wire on the Ignition switch.

I believe that I would be reluctant to 'TAX' that wimpy ignition switch any more than it already is with having to handle the additional current of a 6v fan motor. That IGNITION switch should serve nothing more than the ignition. Mac VanPelt has been gracious enough to allow us to use his electrical drawings. I believe if it were me, I would at least power it from a dedicated circuit from the BOTTOM circuit breaker in the VanPelt diagram below, in which, you can install a switch for the fan. Better yet, install yourself a third circuit breaker, dedicated for accessories like your heater fan, or battery chargers for phones, etc. DD

Thank you,

I’m now on the quest of fan wires. I have, red, brown, green and yellow coming from the switch. The fan motor has yellow/black, brown or green/ I think yellow/red, yellow?

I’m trying to get the motor housing off so I can see what the actual colors might have been.

Thanks for the help so far I really appreciate it.

Will, I recently rebuilt my heater fan motor (6 Volts) and got the fan wiring harness from C&G Ford Parts up the road from you in Escondido. The wiring diagram that came with the harness was very helpful, particularly as it related to my original fan control switch.

Like you, I took the motor housing off so that I could solder the new wires to the right parts of the motor innards.

Go on the C&G website and see if they might have what you need for your '45 truck heater.

Best of luck!!

Thanks, C & G wiring to the switch showed up yesterday. Now that I have the motor disassembled I’m trying to figure out what wires go where and what color is what?

The fan switch has to match the fan motor. There are two types of motors and also switches. One motor is reversible which is for the demister function. The other motor is not reversible and the fan and heater housing do not have demister vents or ducts and the switch has no reverse or demist position. The circuits and wiring harness are different also. Which do you have? Regards, Kevin.

Will, is there any way you can make that print larger. When I blow it up it gets fuzzy. From what I can see, you have the "secret" correct diagram for 46-8 cars and trucks that has been looked for by a lot of folks. Thank you.
