Default Upholstery Staple Gun Suggestions

All the upholstery kits I've installed in the past I used the tacks and hammer. Thinking of going to a pneumatic stapler but need some recommendations. I know it's gonna need some power to shoot a staple into that plastic tack strip.

Ken, I have an ARROW PT50 pneumatic staple gun. Will use from 1/4" through 9/16" staples, I love the thing.

Now that being said, there are some who may argue that if you want to be "correct" you should use the tacks and hammer. RDRR

I have gone crazy over the years with brand name staplers (not air) from hardware stores due to the changing of staple sizes and designations. Also they like to obsolete sizes that fit your stapler from just 5 yeas ago. This is one time I did not go to Harbor Freight for fear of staple compatibility and range of sizes.
What I did do was to go to the local wholesale upholstery supply house. They do sell to individuals all the time. Told them about my dilemma and they see it all the time from people trying to buy obsolete staples for their Arrow/Bostitch /Sears staple guns. (They won't have them). The pro guns they sell use industry standard staples (not hardware store type) and they have stocked all the sizes for their guns for over 40 years. They have high dollar guns for production line work all the way down to good quality guns (from China) for about $100 or so. All good guns have an extended nose which you must have. I bought mine along with various size staples in plain steel and stainless for some applications. I will always be able to get staples for it.
What a wonderful piece of equipment. I did my 32 roadster , top, seats and interior with this gun and it was great.
Just an oopinion

This one was bought in the late 60's, a Duo-Fast Model E. It is capable of setting a 3/8" long staple in maple so it is flush. I think it will out perform what you can get new today. It was used for securing the cloth on pool tables. You might find one on EBay, Craigslist or in a pawn shop.

I needed a power staple gun for one application. I found one on Ebay for $20. and it served me well. I have one more job for it and it will go back on e bay. It was a Craftslman electric.

Years ago the Senco J was the standard for trimmers. Have not seen new ones lately. Luckily I retired with a good stock of staples. Good Luck: Fred A

I got one at Harbor Freight for $22. It's pneumatic and works great. It will use standard Arrow staples or you can buy the staples from Harbor Freight. You can adjust the air pressure at the compressor or install a regulator in line. It will most certainly drive staples into the plastic tack strips. I previously used electric staplers and they do work, but are not heavy duty and they jam a lot.

Ken, if I were to buy another I would be sure it had an extended tip to get in tight places, example is the groove in the rear wood bow on older convertibles.

I have a BeA, it works like butter, probably a little more expensive, but if you plan on doing many more jobs in the future, it'll last, and work like it did on day 1.
