You shouldn't need a spring spreader on that year of car, the spring is not under the tension earlier years are. That is the reason for the pan bars. Need to unload the spring by supporting the weight of the car on jack stands (or similar).

As said, long shackles. A 4 inch shackle drops about 2 inches, looks good, IMO
A longer shackle can effect the handling,,,,depending on how you drive and the type of roads you're on.
