Default Gas tank

Is the fuel tank for 41-48 Ford car the same for a 47 Mercury?

It might be close but there are a lot more differences than a guy would figure between Fords & Mercs. The part number for the 39 thru 41 Mercs is 09B-9002 so something is different. Placement of the sender or maybe the location of the filler neck. A different part number indicates something for sure.

Not sure if Ford was doing this back then, but now days manufacturers change part numbers for tracking purposes, even though the part is the same. Also, I put the tanks inc plastic tank in my 48 sedan fit well, very solid feeling, working good.
