Thumbs down 1949 ford flathead tech quest.

I have a 1949 ford flathead with merc. heads but ford crank, if I put a 49 merc. intake will the engine run without any issues? humbly john!

I don't see why not. However, this manifold has a four bolt carburetor flange, so a Ford/Holley AA1 won't work. You'd have to use a Mercury carburetor, or better yet, an early Rochester 2G. If you knew this, please disregard!

I did what you are talking about doing in l954. It didn't do anything for the car and I changed back to original!

The merc heads will lower the compression. Try to find a set of EAB heads from a 52-53 ford car. These will give higher compression than the mercs or 8BA heads. Also if using a non stock carb ie a Rochester 2g, you will need to change the distributor as it won't get correct vac signal from that carb.
