crash
I've had my 35 since 1971, done a million miles in the old thing.....today some dear old Doris, driving her Suzuki Swift to church drove straight through a give way sign, T-boned my 35, which spun out and careened backwards into a tree. Me thinks it's a Write off. Major damage throughout; I'd say even the chassis is bent.
Moaning is now over!

Try Dave in Inglewood.
Ring him then send some pictures. They have worked on a lot of pre-war Ford V8's. Bought 1 or 2 of mine back from the dead. 021 459 263 |

Re: crash
Yeah, thanks for that, I'll have to wait and see what insurance company says. I doubt they'll want to fix it. They'll no doubt give me what they assess it as being worth, which will be no where enough...

Re: crash
Brian. I don't know what insurance companies are like in NZ, but here in Canada, they always try to deny or save themselves as much money as they can. I have had a few occasions where I avidly disputed their offers. I one case, they told me my old 82 5.0 Mustang was only worth $250 (scrap value) because of it's age and mileage. A friend had an under hood fire in his Corvette, that blistered the hoods custom paint job. The insurance said, the only shop he could take it to, because of its age, was one of those "full body paint job for $500" shops. The owner of the custom shop where the car was painted intervened, and the car was put on a closed car hauler for a 400 km one way trip to the custom shop. They paid for all of the repairs.

Re: crash
Sorry Brian - I know how much the car means to you !
Hopefully you are all ok . I always worry about an accident in our cars with no seatbelts crumble zones etc .My father used to say then any accident that you all walk away from is a good one but I bet it doesn't feel like that currently. One of my mates has his classic car written off -He got the money from the insurance company and was able to buy the write off back from them and restored it with the insurance money. Who are you insured with ? -Karl

Re: crash
Very sad to hear your explanation of the "accident". I can not say I know how you feel but I can say it must be horrible. Makes me wish I could help in some way. Also makes me ashamed my 35 has been sitting in the storage building for 10 years.
Good Luck, JWL |

Re: crash
Well, if you have no permanent damage to yourself (which I REALLY HOPE), that is most important. Truly sad. I wouldn't think a Suzuki could harm an old Ford that seriously which should have outweighed it by probably 2. Sorry to hear it, she must have been going pretty fast. F=MA as my physics teacher would say.

Re: crash
Super bummer, I'm so sorry to hear that. There just is not a thing you can do about stupid people. Hopefully you will be successful with the insurance, and that it can be brought back to service. Good luck.

Re: crash
NUMBER ONE. Hopefully everyone involved not injured.
In the US, in most states, there are (at least*) two different insurance agreements. First, is the one that you pay your insurer for damages to your property. This is usually limited by your insurance agreement. The second is the insurance you pay for damages you cause to another (or they paid for damages to you). And while the liability companies in the US will lie about limits and what can be done ultimately there is a right to go before a judge and the judge sets the amount (of course if you get greedy that might be less than what the other guys insurance might have paid). You are dealing with a major property loss, where "value" is difficult to determine. Contact your lawyer (or solicitor, or whatever) for expert advise on what your rights are and the other parties responsibilities are. *In Oregon at least two more, Injury insurance which is pooled among all involved without regards to fault, and "un-insured motorist" which partially covers what would be a liability claim against the other guy when they do not have insurance. |

Re: crash
Sheeets. But are you Ok physically . Emotionally destroyed I imagine. I am shedding tears for you. And you more than likely didn’t even get a chance to try out the new brakes you recently fitted. Let us know what the insurance co thinks as its now Monday morning.

Re: crash
Hey Brian - first of all, very glad that you're safe - that is by far the most important. With that said, I think I'd be almost sick to have a car that had been in my life that long end up a total wreck out of somebody else's inability to drive their car.
While we all know that cars are just material things in life (and not as important as people), it would still be a very sad day for me to realize what just happened to my ole' Ford Friend . . . |
