Cartouche / Macs experience?
I'd requested two upholstery sample charts from Mac's well over a week ago. Nothing as yet has arrived.
Anyone here have first hand experience with these folks? I realize Mac's has a terrible reputation. I was wondering if I should expect their subsidiary to offer the same.

Re: Cartouche / Macs experience?
I ordered samples a few years back.It seems that it took a few weeks. Then I ordered a headliner and the fit was perfect.

Re: Cartouche / Macs experience?
Try Classtique, A guys swear by them compared to Mac's (Cartouche). Someone on the A board said they're very busy since LB folded. FWIW

Re: Cartouche / Macs experience?
My car is not a restoration. I purchased a headliner and carpet for a ‘50 Fordor a few years ago. The headliner fit good but the carpet wasn’t the same as the stock size and is cheap nylon. If your not happy, they’re good about returns. I’ve been unhappy with some items and my returns have been promptly refunded. I can’t speak for the accuracy for restorations......Mark

Re: Cartouche / Macs experience?
I've not used Cartouche, but several friends have, and they've been very happy with the results.

A friend of mine got one from Macs a few years ago. He said it was not perfect but ok for the money.

Re: Cartouche / Macs experience?
I ordered fabric samples for my '40 from Cartouche a couple of months back, had them in a week or ten days. Then ordered a kit from them on March 30... it arrived today. In the process of opening the boxes now.

Re: Cartouche / Macs experience?
I ordered the samples from Mac's the day that LB went under.
I just received them last Friday. The samples I received are not a match for a '34 Ford. It is odd because they asked what body style I was building and they sent different sample kits for a Victoria,Coupe,2- Dr sedan, and 4 dr sedan. Each kit had different fabric choices in it. The LB kits and Ford offered a small number of choices to pick from, mainly closed car and open car. Following David G's suggestion I contacted Hirsch. It turns out that Hirsch supplied the 30-2 rose beige mohair to LB for thier kits. Jeff at Hirsch was very helpful and saved my project. He was also able to get me in touch with the people at Acme in LA who do the sun visors and have the headliners. LB sent their visors to Acme to have sewn. Acme was also very helpful. The people at LB told me for 6 months that they were unable to source the proper mohair for my kit. I didn't realize that they did not pay their bills and were unable to get any more material. I should have inquired further, I knew something was wrong. |

Re: Cartouche / Macs experience?
I've installed two interiors and one convertible top from Cartouche. The first was for a 40 Tudor sedan. The fit and function was fine , one of the front seat backrest covers was sewn backwards but they were great to work with and sent another in a timely manner. The second was for a friends 39 Zephyr Coupe. We sent them all the patterns and they worked with us very well on that project. I bought new top from them for my 40 Convertible . It fit fine but the quality just didn't compare to the old LB top I was replacing. Didn't come with the metal form that runs across the rear bow like the LB top. None of the snaps were installed , had to remove the old support straps for the rear window and sew them on the new top. Bottom line is , they worked very well with us correcting any wrongs and their interiors work fine but don't expect the same quality as LB.

Re: Cartouche / Macs experience?
It seems that the sample kits I've ordered arrived faster when included with other items. The full interior for the 46 seemed decent - not great but decent. Cartouche assumes that you are an experienced installer as their instructions aren't overly helpful.

Re: Cartouche / Macs experience?
It's been fifteen days since I'd requested upholstery samples. Nothing yet.
If this is the kind of service they typically provide, it may be time to look elsewhere.

Re: Cartouche / Macs experience?
It took about 2 months and 3 phone calls to get my samples and they don't match OEM '34 Ford mohair or headliner colors. Kind of close but not close enough.
They might be better on other years. |
