Crab 42-48 vacuum seal
Deal of the day !!! Someone had a post the other day regarding the vacuum seal on the 42-48 crab distributor.
I didnt have the time to look but knew we had some somewhere and i found them.!! Getting the old seal out is the biggest problem, you can leave the old rivit in if ya want or take it out when you remove the seal.. I will send you two new seals at no charge if you will send me a self addressed envelope with postage on it Thats as good as it gets . Need more send more envelopes ?????? My friday special just for the barners !!!! |

Re: Crab 42-48 vacuum seal
I see you have an rubber "O" ring under the vacuum piston cap. Are you sending them out that way?

Over the years we have used different seals here from paper to small orings. Interesting that over the years building hundreds of these crab distributors ( or any distributor ) we see things, talk to customers and make service changes as we go based on needs etc. Fit and finish , types of lube to assemble, brands of parts, paint, stainless screws , caps clips , leather for vac brakes etc.....I actually believe we finally have got the clearances correct as well.... Heres 5 i did yesterday , note the point plate is painted with a special "transtar" primer as well. And i still learn something every time i build them |

Re: Crab 42-48 vacuum seal
What and where is the rivet that we can leave or discard?

Re: Crab 42-48 vacuum seal
The "rivet" is in the center of the vacuum seal, it retains the seal. If you look at Bubba's post #1 above the second and third photo show the brass rivet, the best.

Never really found a answer for that , when we did the crab trade program a few years back in a effort to find cores. I traded a few hundred units and 2 out of 100 were cast. We cleaned them up and painted them black and kinda like the look. I now have a few here and there , there is some variation on the castings as well..... Would like to hear the real answer i guess..... |

Re: Crab 42-48 vacuum seal
Mine used to whistle a hi pitched tune. Then I greased the leather and tightened it up. As of 4 days ago it now hisses. The reason I know is because I have a soft line (silicone) at the intake going to the steel tube to dizzy, and if I remove it the silicone tube, It's quiet as a mouse. Something downstream of the intake is hissing pretty bad.

Re: Crab 42-48 vacuum seal
I can't see a reason for a 0 ring there. The gasket does fine. No 0 rings on a carb base
just a gasket right, and there is more vac. going on at the carb than that skinny little vac dist. line. |
