Default Remote oil filter

Looks like the WIX 24770 will do the trick, but is there a more compact filter than the WIX 51515, Fram PH 8, or Baldwin B50 ? Thank you Fordbaners.

Should be able to use any filter that meets the specs you are after. The older auto store parts manuals had the filters listed by specifications in the back of the book. Just need to look up thread size, the diameter the the seal area, bypass pressure, etc. I was looking for a different canister size for a Ford PH8 application and found a Studebaker filter that worked perfectly.

Something like these are what I was referring to. Boy, the 1-14 does seem to be an odd filter thread size. Did a quick look and I wasn't seeing much.

The shorter version of a Fram PH8A is PH43. By the way, a B50 Baldwin is a bypass type filter (and uses a different thread size) and a Fram PH8A is a full flow type. Be careful not to substitute the wrong type. (but you probably know that).

Cadillac, from what I am seeing these are 3/4-16 thread filters and the WIX24770 base is 1-14. I'm I looking at it correctly?

Yes,you are. I'm not sure why three different mounting sized filters were referenced in the first post.

From what I am reading this base is not intended for oil filtration, at least not normal oil filters. It is for fuel and hydraulics. I would have two suggestions, the first would be to just get an different base, one set up for 3/4-16, which is the common PH8 size. Or find or make a different thread insert to change the size to 3/4-16.

Something like this: https://www.lindseyracing.com/LR/Parts/944OFTA.html

Not the correct base size I would assume, but it would be what you need in the correct 1-14 base size.

Agreed. If the intended use is oil filtration for a flathead,a 3/4-16 (if you want full flow) base is common and inexpensive...lots available online.
If bypass (original type) flow is needed,Baldwin makes a remote base that accepts their B50 filter. I'm running one on my '41 Merc.,mounted to the firewall.

Never, NEVER use a Fram filter.
There is nothing to them.
Very little actual filter area.
Cut one open and take look. Compare with a Wix or Baldwin or whatever.

On my remote I use a NAPA Gold 1374. It is shorter than Ford. See for specs

Thank you all for the education. I converted the 59L to a 95% filtration system on where it comes from the pump through the main to the outlet side on the bell housing, and returns to the inlet side on the bell housing. What is the best remote oil filter mount and filter choice for that combination ? I would prefer a 3/8" pipe inlet & outlet on the filter to match the ones I tapped into the bell housing. Agreed on Fram quality, I have always used WIX.

Guys, the filters you are listing are 3/4-16 thread size, he needs a 1-14. The Ford size filters are easy to come by, it is the 1-14 that is difficult.

My remote filter kit came with various nipple sizes. So, you can use what ever thread you wanted.

russcc;
Here's a base that accepts a normal 3/4-16 threaded full flow filter like a PH8A or FL1A. Lots of options for others will show up when you look at this one.
I'm assuming you don't need the 1" thread size....

Ya, that's what's needed. From the little research I did I think the big issue is the base with the 1-14 threads is not intended for oil filters. If it was me, I would just get the correct base to start with and try and sell the other one to someone looking for a fuel or hydraulic filter base. Seems like a lot of hassle to work around the odd thread size (for an oil filter) for no more than a correct base would cost. Something like cadillac posted would work best IMO.

Thank you all again. I have not bought a remote oil filter base yet. Because I have used WIx filters for years, that was the remote base I was focused on. If it, or some of the similar WIX model remotes are not 3/4-16 thread for an oil filter I will check out the suggested one. From what I can see, the WIX are made in the USA.

Here are all the wix remote mounts all you need is a 3/4" thread and then pick out the design. This has been hashed over many times on the barn.

24762 should do it

Wix filter size lookup. Select part type: Lube, then: Spin on. https://www.wixfilters.com/Lookup/FilterBySize.aspx

Thanks again. I found the WIX 1085 filter I use on the Jeep 4.0 has 3/4-16 thread. So I am on the right track as that size is not too large. Now to check the footprint.

Thanks to all of you for your help. I went through the WIX remote conversion options list provided by Ronnie, and does looks like the 24762 with a 3/4-16 thread he suggested will do it. It has vertical inlet/outlets which I need, and they all have 1/2" NPT threads so I have no choice there. The filter list provided by Tony NY was great for sorting through the filter options with 3/4-16 thread. The Jeep 1085 was one on them.
