Default 29 Sport Coupe Visor Cover

I’m preparing to install a new top on a ‘29 Sport Coupe - was the visor covered with top material when the car came from the factory ?

Many thanks - Jim

Brent - thanks very much. Your first picture suggests the visor cover material is part of the main top piece - not a separate piece installed separately.

Thanks - Jim

Actually, the top cover wraps the front header first. The visor cover is installed and then the wrapped visor is screwed up into the header to seal rain from entering.

The same material as the rest of the top was used for the most part. It is cut and sewn with a protective layered edge to fit the front and lower side edges of the visor then wrapped over the whole visor. The two screws on each side hold it in place and it sort of tucks up under the header cap. The 30 & 31 cars were different and had no covering on the visor.

The whipcord top material was likely the most common but is is unobtainium in the modern era. Haartz Stay fast is common now. Some 29s had a synthetic leatherette that was likely a pyroxilin coated cloth over a waterproof rubberized material which was the faux leather of the day. Some may have had real leather over a rubberized material but I don't know how common this option was in 1929. I've read some accounts that what was thought to be real leather was just a straight grain faux leather type material. All of them were different shades of brown in 1929. Real vinyl wasn't available in the early Ford era.
