Some Mechanic's Books
Posting on the broken crankshaft thread made me think that others might enjoy these books:
Shigley, Mechanical Engineering Design, https://www.amazon.com/Shigleys-Mech.../dp/0073398209 Carroll Smith, Prepare to Win, http://www.carrollsmith.com/books/ Every car nut ought to own the whole Carroll Smith series. These are absolutely the best car design and preparation books in existence. Carroll was the team manager for Shelby when they won the world endurance championship with the GT-40. They are fun to read as well as highly informative. Carroll's famous quote, "Porsches are crap". These were required reading for the Formula SAE teams when I was going to University of Texas. John

Re: Some Mechanic's Books
From Smith, that "Prepare" volume and his work on nuts, bolts, and fasteners are the best. Once you have read those you will probably want to run out and buy everything he ever wrote.
Oldies...Henry Ford Trade school publications on metallurgy and Shop Theory...the latter is easy to find. A slightly scarce classic...An Elementary Text Book of Automobile Engineering, Facilities Department, Ford Motor Co. Limited, Dagenheim and Essex...That's Ford of England. It's actually two books spliced together on how it all worked as of 1935. Explains the '28-53 Ford offsets, the "Desaxe principle." |
