Default Engine Color

A friend just purchased 3 T's over the course of a couple of months. One is a '26, and another is a '12 do not remember the 3's year. The '12 engine is reported to be the hand built ones and he wants to keep it original in every way along with the chassis. One will be made into a speedster with a hopped up engine, A crank and a lot of other mods including an overhead valve set up. Does anyone know what color paint was used on these engines. Know the A was a dark green color

A: it's his car so he can paint the engine any color he likes. B; If any engine was painted before 1926 the thinking is it was a Black Gilsonite (sp) wash that come off rather fast. C; the pre 26 are often painted with Cast Blast which is a cast iron colored paint. D; The Model A engine color is not the same but will work on the 26-27, that's what my 21 is painted with. Or just go with a satin finish black. I painted mine because why do all that work and have a rusty block from getting wet etc.

All engines were machined then hand assembled whether in one place with parts brought to it or on the moving assembly line. The early engines did have the babbett burned in.

Yep for the speedster any color that suits you! I would think for the 12 0r 13 Cast blast I don't think they were painted. I painted my 1915 black because I feel it makes it look nice.
