Question about the ground strap for a 1931 Ford
I bought a ground strap from either Snyders or Brattons year and half ago,Are they supposed to be shortened by the buyer, namely me? Seems awful long at 8" and it already has come apart from the terminal block.Just had a slot for the braided cable to fit in,no solder and it was not crimped so just came apart.Buy one of the copper ones? They look shorter.

Re: Question about the ground strap for a 1931 Ford
Perhaps call the vendor and ask them these questions. I would have to go out to my late 30 pickup and measure length, but truck is not here at home right now. I have no experience with the copper one, just trying to be helpful with ideas.

Re: Question about the ground strap for a 1931 Ford
Call could not even tell me which one I would receive if ordering another.I do not want another one like the one picture just crimped and not even that.I do not understand why they are made so long for such a short distance but that as well cannot be answered. I am trying to fix this one but it is like getting toothpaste back in a tube.At least I found out it wasn't my battery.

Bratton's shows their braided cable 7" long.

Re: Question about the ground strap for a 1931 Ford
Looks like the other end is also not crimped/soldered. Once repaired and installed take a pic unless you are cutting it to desired length. Then another pic with it completely installed with a battery.
If supposed to be 7 inch it is long, that is about 2 inches too long. Is 2 inches long what you have an issue with? On the bright side at least it too long instead of being short. |

Re: Question about the ground strap for a 1931 Ford
Good idea to do that solder first before cutting. That is the problem the un ravelling and the slot it fits in is so shallow, poor design.Mayby it was supposed to be solder after crimping an someone missed it.Supposedly USA made but that could be vintique.

Re: Question about the ground strap for a 1931 Ford
I have even bought the copper 5-6 ply ground strap like the original and those suckers were to long...So go figure!
