'40 Garnish screws
I need a few #8 slotted oval head screws that are close to 1 1/4" long for the windshield garnish in my '40. The 1" screws I purchased from Roy Nacewicz years ago are marginal in a few locations. I found some 1 1/4" stainless oval heads from the hardware store that work fine, but the phillips heads are out of place. I sent an Email to Third Gen but so far no reply. No luck with McMaster-Carr. Would appreciate any leads. Thanks.
Merry Christmas. |

This is what I used for garnish; ordered some 1", 1-1/4". along with some 1-1/2" for good measure. They polish up well. Last edited by rich b; 12-24-2020 at 10:54 AM. Reason: extra |

Re: '40 Garnish screws
rich b,
Never thought to check with Ebay, or the internet! Figured these were specialized vintage automotive hardware. Thanks for the reply, and Merry Christmas! |

Re: '40 Garnish screws
Try the specialty bolts/screws trays at Home Depot or Lowes They both have quite a selection of all kinds of screws, bolts, nuts, clips, bushings, shims, rubber grommets etc.

Re: '40 Garnish screws
Thanks rockfla,
I'm not familiar with the description "type A tapping screw" so is that just a regular pointed sheet metal screw? I don't want to damage or enlarge the holes already in the body. |

Re: '40 Garnish screws
Yes, the “Typ A” is the “technical” term for the standard sheet metal screw!! They sizes are standard #6, 8 10 so you shouldnÂ’t have any issue with existing hole enlargement

Re: '40 Garnish screws
Restoration Specialties has oval head slotted stainless screws you can polish.
Great people, I got all the slotted screws for my 40 wagon from them. They are in PA. Give them a call or look on line. Their catalog lists more then their online version so if you don't see what you want just ask. http://www.restorationspecialties.com/ |

Re: '40 Garnish screws
Thank you deuce and 51.
Woodiewagon46, McMaster-Carr is my normal go-to hardware store, but I could not find any slotted oval head sheet metal screws on-line. If you have, could you show me the info? |

Re: '40 Garnish screws
When did Henry start with Philips screws? The were invented in1933. Caddy/LaSalle started using them in 1936 or so.
