Default 1935 16” spoked rims

I have chance to buy a set of wide whites, bias looking radials with tubes. I want to put them on ‘35 16” spoked rims. The problem is, the fronts are 600-16 ( which is ok), but the rears are 750-16. Can I put 750s on a 4” rim? Or did ‘35 rims come in different widths? Thank you to all that reply!

'35 spoke wheels only came in 4" widths. There is a 16 " Kelsey that is 4.5 " wide but those are next to impossible to find.

Yep, been done many times. I have seen a couple where the guys stepped up and had the wire wheel widened. I really like that look.

Be sure to check the date code on the tires before you go too far.

At a swap meet the 4.5" Kelsey looks mostly like any other 4". "Impossible" is a bit strong. The 7.50 still looks pinched on 4.5" but may be safer on the road. I'm moving up to 18" now that better tires are available. Fifteen years ago clean 17" or 18" Ford wheels were very cheap because of the poor tire choices. 16"s had been king for decades and sent the value of 1935 and Kelsey 16"s way up. Now seems like a glut out west. Love that tall tire look! Fred A

I've had a set of Diamondback (smoothed blackwall Yokohama LT radials) 750 x 16's, on stock '35, 4" wide spoke wheels for 15 years. These tires and wheels have been on my '35 fordor sedan on many trips that I've taken all over this country, including a 7,200 cross-country tour in 2013, with no problems whatsoever. Before buying these tires, I spoke with the folks at Diamondback, and they assured me these tires would work fine on my 4" wide wheels.

The 7.50 X 16s on 4"-wide '35 spoke wheels that "JM 35 Sedan" makes reference to just above. DD

If you are referring to my 35 fordor sedan with 7.50 x 16 radial tires on the rear, the answer is yes, they have tubes designed to be used in radial tires..

Very adviseable to run tubes in early wheels. The rims do not have a "safety bead". Under low air pressure the tire can slide or fall off the rim.

What brand, and where do you buy them?

The tire dealer in my town recommend a local Ag Industrial Supply dealer nearby for the tubes required for radial tires and the plastic valve stem spacers also required on my original '35 wire wheels. This was ~ 15 years ago, so I don't recall the brand name they carried at that time.

PS... Here's the contact info for the AG Industrial store I mentioned above:

AG Industrial Inc.
