Default '31 Closed Cab Sheet Metal Question

Attached are pictures of the passenger side rear pillar of my '31 Closed Cab. As shown in the pictures a lot of rot on the lower portion. The drivers side was even worse. I made a stamping die to re create the damaged area. In the last picture my question concerns the circled area. Does this area of the patch panel get closed in or is it left open as shown. Would someone be kind enough to take a picture of their closed cab showing that area?
Thanks in advance, Dave
