Default Re: King pin replace

"Honing will not make an oval shaped hole round."
Tell that to the Sunnen Corp that has made millions of machines for making odd shaped holes round and straight..
The model numbers for your info are: Sunnen LBB-1699 Rod Hone plus AG-300 Precision Gauge. You can find pictures by searching with those numbers.

Many parts are precision reamed at the factory, BUT, they are not held in a bench vise with the reamer turned by a hand held Crescent wrench. The double piloted step cut reamers used at the factory cost way more than most home mechanics will spend for the ocassional job. In fact, they cost more than a pair of brand new spindles.

As for reconditioning connecting rods, it can NOT be done RIGHT with a hone alone.
You do the big end first, then you BORE the small end bushing so the center to center length is proper and the small end is parallel to the big end and on size.
All of this needs to be done on a machine designed for the job such as a Hydrobore or a PW jig borer. Neither of which will be found in the average auto hobbiest's shop.
