I was wondering the other day how much the word RARE is worth is a description of some thing for sale / now we are zeroing in on it.

I too watched this and while I am very happy for Young Mike, I am also baffled by the ignorance shown in the bidding. Well, not really baffled as I am flabergasted that there are those that apparently have more money than sense.
While those caps are rare, they are not THAT rare. A friend has a beauty and I have one that is nice but without keys.
Way to go Mike!!!

Yes, 120 bids but if you check the bidding history the majority of those were made by one bidder.

Now, that's using your imagination..! Without imagination, there would be no knowledge... As Raymond Loewy once said, "Never leave well enough alone." Imagine that. Merry Christmas

Clearly bids made by people who have no good strategy on ebay and just kept bidding up. I never bid more than once and use a sniper: http://www.gixen.com/index.php. I lose very few auctions and don't bid items up needlessly like the winner in this auction did. I learned my lesson early, a long time ago I put in a ridiculous bid so high I thought no one would bid that high, and won the auction with a 50% premium. Should have waited as another idiot did the same thing!.

Yes, he's done very well on that gas cap! Let's just hope the buyer pays before he comes to his senses.

I have a matching '37 hood handle, new in the box with the original tissue paper packaging. It's going in my safe deposit box!

Mike should have listed it as 1932 Ford only and he would have doubled his money.

It looks, to me, like the winning bidder knew what he was was doing, didn't bid until the last few minutes; but did leave himself room to bump it again if he had second thoughts; which he did, and took the auction.

No accounting for the other idiots that jacked up the total number of bids with multiple low increment bids.

So...Anyone know who made those particular locking gas caps? My avitar is one. I actually had two of them, sold one to a member on here a while back. I run the other on my 35. I consider it to be a 35 accessory, because the V8 logo matches that on the 35 hubcaps.

What??? Thats just stupid. But I am glad there are still some people out there that have no conception of the value of the dollar.
I hope they also have enough to give to charity.
