Default Cab to Frame Bolts 39 Pickup

I am removing the cab from my 39 Pickup and see four bolts holding it to the frame on each side. The fore and aft bolts are extra long and have springs on them with cotter pins. The two inner bolts on each side have no springs. Makes no sense. The springs can't work if the inner bolts are fast to the frame. What gives? I am missing something here. thanks, john

Thats the way they were. Solid mount in the middle and springs fore and aft to allow for frame flex.

I agree with V12Bill. That's the way they are on the 35-36 PU as well.

And the new bolt kit can be had from Roy Nacewicz, Fordbolts.com. Roy alway's has a good story or tidbit about your parts order.

Don't forget the anti-squeek up front

Amazing. On my truck, the springs and nuts are underneath the frame. Cab must have been removed at one point. Also, on your truck 31 Chevy, the horn is on the engine. I have no idea where my horn is supposed to be. I think it goes on the front crossmember.

Springs are SUPPOSED to be underneath. Just took them off my old truck last week.

Correct about horn mounting.Front crossmember so it sounds out behind lower grill area.Saw a '38 last summer with proper horn and mount(I think).Good luck on finding that combo!

I just replaced the wood and the bolts on my 41. Springs go under the frame on your pickup. On mine there was also some impregnated rubber shims between the wood and the frame. Nacewicz has the new bolt kit. The springs compensate for the frame twist.

I don't think that horn & location was original, the original was mounted on the headlight bar. ( I did not put this back on as yet & am not sure I will)

They are quite short - much shorter than valve springs. and quite strong. If I were looking for a substitute and could not get the proper type I would try the springs used in the track rod ends on 32's and the like. Can't guarantee they would work but I'd at least try them.

Mart.

Ah, Tie rod end springs. I have plenty of them. They mount below the frame? I don't understand how that functions.

I used a valve spring on one of mine that had come loose and fallen off.
