36 coupe water drain issue in pan
Hello, I have a 36 coupe with dicky/rumble seat and hate how the pan fills with water, I have made a tray to catch some of it and profiled it with gap sealant to make it run to the drain holes in the rear shelf behind the dicky/rumble seat, but it won’t catch it all, should I try to drill holes in the bottom of the rear pan, what does everyone else do the get the water to drain away, cheers Paul

Re: 36 coupe water drain issue in pan
While I don't know what a "dicky/rumble seat" is. I do have a1936 cabriolet with a rumble seat and it has a hole the size of a quarter on bottom of each side of the rear pan where you have the rust and water. I presume the holes are there to ease the problem.
Does the frame where the lid sits have rubber insulation to seal out the water to prevent the problem? |

Re: 36 coupe water drain issue in pan
Hello, thanks for the reply, I have the two holes where the pipes go in the body for the trunk cars, but rumble seat ones don’t have the lip right around the lid to catch it all so the water just fills up inside below the spare wheel, should there be drain holes under there, cheers

I believe dicky is the British terminology for rumble seat. Like bonnet/hood and boot/trunk.
I always wondered how we got the term “rumble seat”. Rumble?? Maybe something carried over from horse carriages. |

Most rumble seat open cars in 35-36 came with a water deflector screwed n to the floor behind the rumble led and seat.

Ford did not have drain holes in original bodies, but many people put them in.
