Universal shell grease
Today I was successful in put in grease into the universal shell. I used corn head grease. I got a complete tube (14 oz) into the cavity.
No grease has yet to come out of the speedometer connection. In fact the speedometer cable has yet to be installed. So, have I put enough grease in the shell, or should I add some more? Thanks, |

Re: Universal shell grease
Most say to keep going until you see it in speedo window. FWIW

Re: Universal shell grease
Well, I just pushed a second tube, (total 28 oz) into the shell. Still no visible sign of grease from the speedometer opening.
I guess that I will need to try a third tube. I will have to get that tomorrow. Thank you, |

Re: Universal shell grease
I just installed a transmission and a new u-joint. I hand packed the clam shell and one tube of cornhead-grease filled it. I put heavier grease on the outside/torque-tube. You want to be careful that you aren't pumping it in to the transmission.

Re: Universal shell grease
See post 4 & 5. Mine came out the clamshell felt seals after about 1 tube. It appears to soften with heat and working pressure so there may be some residual drip similar to the steering gear.
