Default Any info on A217, Sport Coupe on MAFCA website?

I just noticed the picture of A217, the MAFCA website 'A of the day'. I don't remember reading anything about it. Has there been any articles?
Thank you.

Are the headlights and horn early 28 features?

From the picture, I see more wrong with it than right with a three digit car. I would definitely like to see more pictures of it showing engine, interior, and chassis details. Anyone know who's it is?

If this Sport Coupe is indeed A217, it would have been assembled on Friday, November 4th and would be the 78th Model A built, not including the prototypes.

I believe both the front and rear bumpers should be open ended. Also I enlarged the picture and the front wheel does not look like an early wheel or early lug nuts. I would like to see more pictures. While it looks like a nice sport coupe from what I can see it does not look like an early 28.

Not to be a stick in the mud here but we all know that there are many peripheral parts to a Model A that are interchangeable. That doesn’t mean that the basic car isn’t what the owner claims it to be. To many, parts are parts to an extent when building a Model A. It may be a case of getting the car done and fine tuning it to what needs to be correct while being able to enjoy it while they are on the journey.... just saying....

Why not accept the car for what it is? Why are people so quick to criticize and downgrade. Let the owner enjoy his day in the sunshine !

Lots of things visible in the pic show this car is unencumbered by the Judging Standards.
But what the heck, they don't all have to be.
Nothing that can't be upgraded or corrected when desired.

Here's my take.

It's a nice looking '28 Sport Coupe that someone should be proud of.

However, by calling out the low serial number, the person who submitted the picture is trying to call out the uniqueness and importance of the vehicle. Which in my mind means that they are open to scrutiny.

Without the early features the uniqueness of a low engine number is diminished.

fwiw.

The headlights, whatever they're off, appear to have a sealed beam conversion installed.

It’s over 90 years old and someone has spent a lot of time and money taking care of it.

I like it. My 92 year old aunt has some add on parts that were needed to keep her going.

92 is a long time, but it’s still 92 years old. A birthday is a birthday. Some add on parts will not change that.

I like it, looks nice.

Enjoy.

What is fascinating is putting it alongside a late 31 ..although basically similar they are truly two different cars. That car obviously isnt a fine point restoration but if its A217 it doesnt have to be

Most of those early cars got hit by service bulletins due to problems that were found after they hit the streets. The car is enjoyable the way it is. To make one of these older cars a high point restoration takes a lot more time and funds to find all the rare pieces for that type of car. Some folks like the high point cars and some folks like drivers. I don't consider critiquing the current configuration a bad thing. It's just stating factual information that would be required if it ends up a high pointer.

The Sport Coupes are hard to restore to high point due to one major factor. The original type top material hasn't been available for a very long time so that would require a maximum effort to overcome. They are nice cars though and were very highly sought in that first year of production. The popularity sort of fizzled after about a year and a half. I'm sure that the Cabriolet sort of helped with that.
