Default Gear Shift Lever Install

The gear shift lever on a '36 transmission popped out. And the transmission is stuck in gear. How do I reassemble it?

It should slide right back in the way it came out. Beware of the little short pin in the threads of the shifter tower that may have fallen into the transmission. The pin goes through the shifter tower and locks into the groove on the ball of the shifter to keep the shifter from spinning around.

If Chris' approach doesn't work (it should) your next step would be to take the top off the tranny, install the shift lever back in the top, at which point you can easily line up the shifter forks. Chris' suggestion should work, however.
