1935 Ford Tudor Deluxe - Wheel Colour
Hello all - I acquired this 1935 Ford Deluxe Tudor a few years ago from the estate of a close family friend who passed away. He had owned the car since the early 1960's and purchased at that time from the original owner, so I'm the third owner. The car is an unrestored original with 32,000 miles, extremely well preserved, especially for a car that spent it's winters in Canada. The interior is mint and the glove box still contains service records and the original owners manual.
My question is regarding wheel colour. The previous owner at some point in the 1980's removed the wheels and had them painted a silvery-grey colour, and put on white walls. My father recalls seeing the car in the early 1960's (when it still belonged to the original owner), and it had grey wheels on it at that point. I took a look in the 1935-36 Ford Book, and it states that Deluxe cars with black bodies had "medium apple green" wheels. Is it possible that the dealer sold it with grey wheels? I'm wanting to put new tires on it and freshen up the wheel colour - and I suppose I'm torn between repainting them an original grey colour, or medium apple green. Any advice? I've also been trying to find out what medium apple green actually looks like and if there are modern paint codes that ensure the proper colour...anybody know how to go about acquiring proper "medium apple green" paint? Thanks, Mark |

Re: 1935 Ford Tudor Deluxe - Wheel Colour
I believe as a deluxe car it "should" have also had a single pinstripe on the belt molding to match the wheel color. AS from the factory, I would say NO never painted grey, would a dealer "possibly" re-paint at the customer's request....."maybe".......but not "original. Here is a 35 with the green wheels. The green formula should be easily obtained from most paint records. Where it me I'd go green as quick as I could as I love that color with the black SO I'm very partial that way!!!!! NOTE green pinstripe too!! There was also red & tacoma cream which may not be according to hoyle but would also look good with the black IF you wanted to at least stay with 'original" colors!!!! IF your car is that "original" post some more pictures, would love to see more of it!!!!

Re: 1935 Ford Tudor Deluxe - Wheel Colour
Apple Green wheels on a 35 Ford would be a much more subdued color.
The apple green shown in rockflas photos is a model A apple green |

Re: 1935 Ford Tudor Deluxe - Wheel Colour
Go to paintref.com and select 1935 Ford. Therein you will find bright apple green, the striping color and the current paint codes of DuPont, PPG, etc. for the paint. Medium apple green is not listed, however if you shift to the 1936 colors, the first listing is apple green, a much more subdued color as Don Rogers indicates. It appears to also be the the '35 wheel color, medium apple green even though it is not labeled as such and it gives a current DuPont code for the color. First, however, I'd like Don's opinion.
Don, Please look at that 1936 page of paintref.com and see if you agree with my assessment. Thanks. |

David is correct on his assessment that the correct Medium A.G. is listed under 1936. www.colorlibrary.com is where you might find a mix for your color. Here is what the color should look like if your computer screen is adjusted properly. |

Don
Interesting......The color sample you posted "looks" more "Kelly" type green on my computer. There is a (supposedly) "un-restored" 35 4 door town sedan here that a friend owns and the "green" is between the picture I posted and the color you posted BUT closer to the "apple" side than the "kelly" side of your photo.....PERHAPS someone might post a photo of their car on this post???? |

Re: 1935 Ford Tudor Deluxe - Wheel Colour
This is an interesting discussion. As with the Model A there are a wide array of Apple Green variations. Even the MAFCA supported color chart show the same color being used from 29-31 and 35-36, which Don has pointed out is not correct.
Has anyone used these codes or can recommend a source. Seem like with the model a codes the hue is different from one vendor to another.

Re: 1935 Ford Tudor Deluxe - Wheel Colour
Another question..My 36 Deluxe 5 Window is Gunmetal Grey....I had the wheels painted Poppy Red..which was a $5 upcharge in 1936...the Hubcaps I had painted in Gunmetal....My question..Should the Hubcaps be painted Poppy Red to match the wheels or left Gunmetal??..Also..What color should the V8 Script be painted? ..Gunmetal or Black? Thanks...
