1936 wide fives to 1935 wire baskets ~ need advice
Hey Guys
I have wide fives on my 1936 1/2 ton pickup and bought a really nice set of 1935 kelsey hays bent wire rims with almost new tires. Where would be the best source to get the wheel assemblies (backing plates drums etc) to convert my rims? Also I wanted to ask about the recommended backing plates ~ whos a good source for those? Relatively new to this. Respectfulky Submitted Dean and Carla Last edited by dinokruzordinance; 07-02-2013 at 08:37 AM. Reason: Fat finger type lol |

First question do you have mechanical or hydraulic brakes now?

I'm having a little trouble understanding why you would want to convert your '36 to the earlier wire wheels.. The '36-39 wide five wheels are a much better wheel that the KH wires..
If your car has been converted to hydraulic brakes, you can use '40-48 drums with the KH wires, however, the wires don't mate up well with these drums so an adapter plate is required to insure proper support/contact for the wire wheels to the drum.. From my point of view, if it ain't broken, why fix it?
