Where art thou diff centres?
Greeetings Fordbarners, My stock flat 6, 3 on the tree (manual gearbox) propelled 49 Coupe pulls like a Trojan but revs too hard on the highway due to 3:7 to 1 rear end. I beleive that later '55-'55 Fordomatic Fords ran a 3:2 to 1 rear end. Where can I get hold of one? all leads appreciated. cheers from Downunder.
p.s. I have just checked over/detailed/ re installed eng/trans & would prefer to avoid the more complex route of replacing with overdrive box or Mustang, etc, rear. |

Not sure about '52 and up, but here are the ratios offered from '49-'51. The Fordomatic and it's higher gears came out in '51.
Here is the complete listing of ratios and part numbers taken out of the "green" book. Re: Where art thou diff centres?
You sign off as being from downunder. If this is Oz the 3.2 diffs are behind auto Customlines 57-59.
Another option is to get the diff out of a Centura that was fitted with the 6 cylinder hemi. These are a four pinion Borg-Warner and have the Ford bolt pattern. Hope this helps.

Re: Where art thou diff centres?
I never mentioned in my earlier post, but Cusso Bill will set you in the right direction in NSW.
Vern Gitsham is the man in Victoria. If you are in the West I may be able to help. Regards
