Default Gland rings counter bore

Does the block have a counter bore for the gland rings like the exhaust manifold do? My block doesn’t show any sign of any counter bore.

See page 312 of the Service Bulletins. Looks like the counter bore ended in January 1929.

I believe they only stopped using them for a short time then started using them again. My late 1930 block is machined for them.

From Bratton's catalog.

The 4 rings that seat into the manifold and block to prevent leaks. Ford discontinued using these for a brief time in early 1929. If the manifold or block has been resurfaced, the width of the gland rings will need to be reduced by the same amount.

Steve, Thanks for posting that info... well done and very informative. From one that had a background in automotive engine manufacturing, each one of those seemingly small changes brought back (bad) memories, of piles of paper work "change orders", foundry pattern changes (many - many patterns) and hard tool and fixture changes on the machining line.
