Default Distributor

When I turn the rotor back and forth there is an excessive amount of play. has anyone expensed this. could the lower shat be worn or the oil pump dist. drive gear worn? just looking for some help on my Model a coupe.

The shaft under the distributor is worn, or at least the bushing.

That is the reason you never go back when adjusting the rotor, if you miss it make another revolution. Also when rotating the crank, never go back, just make another revolution.

The intermediate shaft, driven of the camshaft could also be worn. Easy to replace from the valve chamber.

My experience and understanding is with Charlie Stephens. Watch the Tony Hillyard video on YOUTUBE on how to set the timing on the Model A. He also talks on this.
