Default Fuel filter problem

I have a '31 Sport Coupe that has a fuel flow problem. Yesterday I noticed the awful condition of the (rubber) gasket that fits between the glass bowl and the filter top. Luckily I had a genuine replacement kit with a new gasket and gauze. Problem. If I screw the adjustment screw too tight fuel does not flow into the bowl. If I loosen the screw enough to allow the fuel to flow it leaks badly once the bowl is full. Any ideas?

Make sure your gas cap is vented and when you start the car and the float valve / needle seat opens the bowl will fill...

Sometimes I loosen the bowl till it just fills but before it leaks out then tighten it up

Even on a normal running car, if you watch the glass bowl, you're mystified about the "flow", you can't even SEE it flow.
That's why I prefer the IRON bowl.

I have seen the fuel line plugged by the gasket squishing.

There may be times when you replace the sediment bowl filter and it doesn't fill up the carburetor is full of gas. Take a ride and it should fill up again.

Glenn,
I put 4 to 5 hundred miles a Month on Minerva, with an IRON bowl, & NEVER had any water in it, when I drained it! They seem to do an EXCELLENT job of filtering. JUST SET IT & FORGET IT
