Default Odd Holes in the Hood

On a recent trip out west, wife and I took the Durango scenic train trip up to Silverton. There was a nice 1931 Coupe sitting in front of a restaurant, with some odd holes in the hood, around the louvers... Any ideas what these holes were for?

Thanks

Was very common here,I've seen a lot of them, and have one on my pickup.Used to attach covers over the sides to hold the heat in while driving in the cold.My truck had plywood bolted on,but I was told that canvas sides were actually made for them.

Interesting. Would the wood or canvas attach to the inside, or outside, of the hood?

On mine the plywood was on the inside, but that was just homebrew, not specially manufactured. That truck was parked at the end of the war when they could buy something better.I kind of forgot about the factory made side curtains,They had louvers, but they could be shut by hand.I'm not sure if they went on the inside or outside. They were made by one of the winterfront manufacturers, like Pines or Perfex. They bolted on with 4 or 6 bolts.

Hello, I have seen the winter covers on the sides of hoods also, the winter fronts were popular in the 1930,s , a few restored cars have them on display at antique car shows , usually they are a silver painted canvas material that attached to the grill .
