Default Stop light issue

I have now have all my lights working, headlights, taillights, cowl lights as parking lights and the stop light. However, the stoplight initially comes on when brake pedal is depressed but goes off when brake pedal is pushed to the floor. There is no adjustment for my 30 coupe so any info on how to fix this would be appreciated.

Do you have a reproduction switch or an original switch? Remove the switch and open it up to see if the plunger and or contact is broken. Then report back.

I just installed a new 30-31 switch . However it was only $9.25 from Mikes so is it defective. I saw Brattons has one advertised for $57. What is the difference. I did not hook up the switch that was on the car, figuring new would be better. Now I am kicking myself because the original one may have been working.

My advice is to pitch that $9.25 Chinese reproduction switch in the trash before it catches your car on fire. The $57 one is made by A&L and is of very good quality. A&L 0nly sells to the dealers now. See the attached article.

Warranty issue, take it back to the Ford dealer, in China.

What do you mean the pedal goes to the floor?? No where near that kind of pedal travel is needed

Brakes are not working now so brake travel is not correct. I have worked on getting the engine going and working on lights. Brakes are the next part of this project. Will install old switch and see what happens. Will attempt to get expensive switch. Will revisit this issue once brakes are functioning correctly. Thanks everyone for helping me.

Kinda doesn't make sense. The switch should be either open or closed. I think yours should have the crossmember mounted switch. You can probably take the switch apart and fix it.

Cool Re: Stop light issue

There was a cheapy brake light switch on my '29 phaeton many years ago. A buddy and I pulled into a convenience store. He ran in to get some brewski's and while waiting I started smelling some smoke. I jumped out of the car and opened the hood: no smoke. Looked under the car and the brake light switch was literally on fire! I yanked all the wires lose from the switch and stopped the fire. Talk about an unwanted thrill! It was the correct style '28-'29 switch. I replaced it with another cheap repop, but took it apart first before I put it on the car. To make sure is was proper. Some years years ago I bought one of the A&L '30-'31 style switches for my '31 roadster. Back then I think it was only $30 bucks. I also picked up an original NOS one off of greed-Bay too. You can never have to many good parts for your "A".
