I give up!
I have tried to rebuild my Marvel carb to no avail. Gushes out fuel no matter what I do. Put in a new Under the dash shut off valve from Snyder, replaced all the jets and gaskets from Dave Renner, and tried 3 times to set the fuel bowl level.
So, I am looking to buy a totally rebuilt and set up Marvel carb for my 1931 Model A Sport Coupe. Any help pointing me in the right direction would be most appreciated. Regards to all, The Geezer

Re: I give up!
Call Gary Johnston. He can rebuild yours or probably sell you one.
903.490.3725 Curious - is your float valve not sealing? I just put a new float and valve from Renners in mine yesterday. It works great. |

Re: I give up!
Thanks for the info! Yes, I put in a new float valve with the Vito’s rubber tip. I was careful to inspect it for burrs or brass chips. I rebuilt it a few weeks ago and had no problems…until it started to drip out the back intake. Then I suspected that the shut off valve was leaking and replaced it with a “gauranteed not to leak” USA valve from Snyder. All was well until I hooked everything up to check the fuel level in the bowl and turned on the valve…result was gushing fuel. Took everything apart 3 times adding washers to the float valve…with the same result.

Re: I give up!
Yes tapped on the carb to try and stop the fuel flow to no avail. When I had the carb apart (3 times) the main fuel flow valve and float was working fine when I blew into the inlet and moved the float up to stop. I will be calling Gary Johnston tomorrow to see what he suggests.
Thanks to all who replied!

Unlike a Zenith, a Marvel Schebler has a seal on the GAV and will leak gas from there. Ensure the GAV seal is installed. Also, I make my own gaskets from Buta-N/Cork. The Marvels tend to warp if the screws are tightened too much and the paper gaskets are too hard to seal. Only tighten the screws enough to collapse the lock washers. I found the above works for me but I'm sure I will get some negitive feedback... |

Re: I give up!
Sounds like a warranty issue. I would take it back to the Ford dealer.

Re: I give up!
Sent my unMarvel to Gary and he is rebuilding it. I suspect the GAV was the culprit but
could not get it to seal properly even with new parts from Dave Renner.
