Default Why does it seem to rain on cruise/show days?

Seems that this year many of the best show and cruise days have been rained out. Was all set for Main street in Putnam CT today but too wet.
Is there a rain date?

The new top on my `35 cabriolet is a real challenge to put up. It is so tight that it takes two people hold it and lock it in. Besides it is no fun with the top up. I watched the weather all last week and it threatened rain on Saturday, the big day in Gallipolis, Ohio where about 150 cars gather under the big shade trees at the city park annually. It had been beautiful all week, low humidity and moderate temperatures. But Saturday storms were coming from two directions, or so the weatherman predicted. I took a chance and drove my `35 anyway. Had a great time, and the only thing that hit my car from above were acorns from squirrels feeding above me.

Sometimes you just have to take a chance.

Shadetree, I haven't been to the show in Gallipolis, OH for a few years, but have been there more than once...nice show! The setting is great, right along the Ohio River, lots of shade and usually some nice old original vehicles. I had forgotten all about that show. I wish they sent out flyers on it. We live a couple of hours away, so we don't gon't get much information on the shows along the river. Pat

Our car show was yesterday, it rained all day on & off,
they had the trophy awards early because of it.

We are pretty spoiled on the left coast....I remember in the day when I had a 57 Ford convertible and left the top down all summer. It was parked outside and never got wet. The nights were such fun cruising drag. Oh well.

Pat,
The show is held every August. I Google Gallipolis Ohio Car Show and get the details in mid July. This year they had an option to be reminded via email and they did. I just looked and can't find this option. Here is the site: http://www.blacktoprebels.com/events...t.eventId=4056

It is a good show with great door prizes and lots of shade. I met a couple this year that has owned a `53 Ford convertible since the mid 60's. They dated in it in high school. They had it on display.

Count your blessings, we could have used a little rain Saturday morning, the road to the car show starts with half mile of dusty gravel road, then follow the trail down the pavement where the local rancher has moved 200 cows.... ..B.

Barlea,
You're right. We are complaining about the rain because of car shows and those poor farmers and ranchers in Texas would give anything for this rain for far more important reasons.

Rain, rain, and more rain!! We took the 39 out for a shake down after some work last week and ran into a rain storm that was unreal. The poor little wipers were doing as best as they could but I couldn't see a thing. After a total of 100 miles we made it home safely, after running into the house and calming down, I was exhausted, nap time. Ol Ford never missed a beat.

Henry Wadsworth Longfellow has the answer:

The day is cold, and dark, and dreary;
It rains,and the wind is never weary;
The vine still clings to the mouldering wall,
But at every gust the dead leaves fall,
And the day is dark and dreary.

My life is cold, and dark, and dreary;
It rains,and the wind is never weary;
My thoughts still cling to the mouldering past,
But the hopes of youth fall thick in the blast,
And the days are dark and dreary.

Be still, sad heart, and cease repining;
Behind the clouds is the sun still shining;
Thy fate is the common fate of all,
Into each life some rain must fall,
Some days must be dark and dreary.

Some of the old locals used to say, "God is so proud of Seattle he washes it everyday."

Since it's become San Francisco Light I'm not sure that still applies.
