Wiper motor replacement
I'm done with the 12V conversion on the 55 and now I'm looking at how hard it would be to convert from the vacuum wiper to electric motor wipers. I did a search and did not run across any old threads. The vacuum wipers are not working and living in Oregon, you can leave your house in dry weather and then, oops here comes the rain.
If anyone has done this conversion I'd be happy to hear how it went and where they got the wiper motor. This would be for a 55 Country Sedan Wagon. |

Re: Wiper motor replacement
There is a bunch of info here: http://www.jalopyjournal.com/forum/group.php also some install pictures are there. The Newport conversion costs around $200 but the feedback on them has been A+ on several forums, you might check ebay just for fun with todays economy sometime parts from unfinished projects will show up at some low ball prices.

Thanks for the tips. I had not run across either of those resources in my googling.

Re: Wiper motor replacement
i did a newport system in my 55 mercury wagon it was straight foward i had the dash out when i did it so it was easier you'll have to remove the radio for room to work i also did a 12 volt conversion with a new harness you will have to get the extender for the switch i used the delay switch its worth every penny as stated in prior replys ck e bay for the systems i think there 2 different ones 1 for factory ac or radio and 1 without can't remember you can also deal directly with newport and bypass the middleman and their markup

Re: Wiper motor replacement
Newport Engineering without a doubt. I have three of their units and all work real good.
