Cool Power brakes on a 1932-34 Ford V8

Has anyone ever used or know anything about power brakes on a 1932-34 with rod brakes.
I have a NOS kit made by Bendix and was wondering if it is worth installing.
Any feedback appreciated.
Graham

What does it consist of? The 32 BB truck I have has some kind of a canister that has been installed in the main brake rod. I wonder if my truck had some kind of assist?

I have heard of a vacuum assisted power brake accessory kit for rod truck brakes, but I have never seen anything about them.

With the amount of mileage most of us put on theese cars...going for a softer friction material in the linings will probably do as much...just my 2c.
When i turn drums for people i put lining on them sized to fit the now ovesized drum and they are usually very happy with the braking power...you canīt more then lock the brakes...rest is about endurance...
That booster will probably work...but before installing make sure you can get the diapragm and any other parts that may need to be replaced...so theyre not unobtanium.

Kit is interesting but I agree with the above With well set up mechanical brakes I have never run out of brakes and can lock up the wheels at any speed.

Some times my brakes are to good- They can be a little grabby the first time I use them at the end of my drive when cold but after that when warm they are fantastic . I was teaching my wife to drive my car over the weekend and she applied the brakes like she does in her little Toyota shopping basket Almost threw us both through the windsheild

The brakes on my 32 work really great, When I get a W.O.F on the rollers at the government station they compliment me on the reading they get on the gauges, because most of the cars they test with rod brakes do not get a high reading. I have had a special brake lining bonded on and a centerlising kit fitted on the bottom of the shoes on the front and have set them up to Ford specifications with all the whole car up in the air. You must remember that originally that these vehicles were fitted with a asbestos lining originally which gives greater braking efficiently which is now obsolete.

Very True Ian - Of course you can get the Asbestosis linings NOS on Ebay. Not that I am condoning the use of such a hazardous material but you can and they do work well - So I hear

BTW I was taught University that although Asbestosis is dangerous when it is really dangerous is when it is combined with smoking in the person who is exposed to it -increasing the rates of a really nasty cancer mesothelioma many times . However like most of what I got taught there it was probably incorrect and/or has changed lots since -Old age is not much fun ! Karl

The friction of a modern lining material can be way better then the old ones.
It`s the endurance combined with friction that is hard to beat with asbestos.
Since we donīt put to many miles on the cars endurance isnīt an issue...so go for a soft material...not one designed for powerbrakes...and you have all the stopping power yu ever need.
