Re: 59ab hard start when hot
If you have 12 volts ign. I guess you have a kit to loose the ford coil that was mounted on dist. or like 46 later two wires and spark wire down to coil.
I don,t care for the different colors black is find for me. When you are ready to try something new, get a IC 17coil,ICR 23 Resister. When you shut off don't pump gas when starting. |

Re: 59ab hard start when hot
It's 12v volts if he has a "blue" vw/bosch coil. Condenser maybe it.
I'm assuming it's also running a electric fuel pump and all the other fixes. What temp you running? What's your compression? 2x2 don't need much...but what condition is your condition...man |

Re: 59ab hard start when hot
I can't see where he has ever said whether he has 6 or 12volts.

I would also use a key switch start and run. The key switch is good, when you go to start its shuts off all acc. Cuts power to fuel pump, radio, gps, ect. So all power is to ign and starter. They sell general purpose switches, start, ign, acc, hide it if you don,t like it. In around 1951 ford went to the key switch. |

Re: 59ab hard start when hot
I'd try running a second ground to the starter. The stock wiring does not allow for full voltage to ignition on start. The starter nay be pulling voltage below ignition needs.

Re: 59ab hard start when hot
The 12V battery is grounded to the body. Using the same grounding fastener the body is grounded to the frame. Im using a T5 trans with a grounding strap from it to the chassis.....still think a ground from starter to chassis will help. Guess it can't hurt. Thanks

Re: 59ab hard start when hot
Try a manual toggle switch to bypass the resistor when starting. Rich

Re: 59ab hard start when hot
I was reading that the blue coil doesn't need a resister so try with out it If that doesn't work go to nada and get a ic12 or 13 and use the resister you have.

Re: 59ab hard start when hot
As has been stated several times now, the Bosch Blue Coil DOES NOT use a ballast resistor!!!

Re: 59ab hard start when hot
Bought a Napa ST56 starter solenoid and a Echlin IC14 coil as a spare. The contacts in the foot switch were heavily worn and "blackened"...I think this might have been drawing too much amperage, causing the hard restarts. Opinions ??
The ST56 and toggle switch I installed work great. I went against my better judgement of changing more than one thing at a time but I removed the ballast resistor and installed the new coil with the internal resistor. It was hot, humid and the tools were out so ....! The "old" coil, very little use though, was a matte blue from Bubba.... not a bosch... no name on the coil just #0814# on bottom. Motor started right up as usual. After a little drive in the Florida heat I turned off the motor and it immediately restarted. Let it sit 15 mins, about 200 Deg, and it started but took a few cranks.....livable ! Was it the foot switch or coil or a little of each.....not sure. Hope this problem is solved. Thanks for the interest and feedback. |
