Default 1935 Tudor Door Lock Removal

I have the right passenger door inner panel removed to replace the window, which I am in the process of doing. I do not have a key that fits the door lock, so I figured I would just replace the whole lock with a vendor supplied one and it would have its own key. Problem is, I don't know how to remove the lock. The door latch has screws removed and is loose, but won't quite slide off the lock shaft due to the 90 degree bend in the back of the door. From what I can see, it looks like there might be a circlip that holds the lock in place but if I could manage to remove it, I would never get it back on with the latch in place.

How do I do this?

There is a set screw that holds the lock cyl in place. The hole on the inside next to the lip of the door directly in line with the lock cyl.The originals used a set screw and is a slotted head.Be careful as they sometimes can break off then is a real mess to get out. Here is a pic of my '33.Its similar to your '35 .

There's some good pictures and comments in this old thread:

https://www.fordbarn.com/forum/showthread.php?t=20473

Once the set screw is out the lock cylinder itself can be seized into the tube it fits into and can also be tough to get out.

What you have shown in your photo of the lock is an original lock cylinder. It will have a key code stamped into the body and for less that a replacement you can have the proper lock cylinder and keys. There are at least two men on this web site that will cut you keys from the code.

Thanks to all. A little knowledge goes a long way! I have a slotted screw and it came right out as did the lock. The lock has a number "FD 867". Would it be possible to obtain a key that would work or should I just replace the whole lock? I did a quick internet search for a key with that number and came up empty.

"32phil" on this forum can do it. He's probably your best bet.

Getting that lock out makes you one of the luckiest guys in the V-8 world! Also Don Rogers who comes to this forum can also cut you a key. I would also recommend replacing the slotted set screw with an allen head set screw.

If 32phil has already departed to Florida for the winter, I can cut you a key-to-code if you need it soon. $10.00 including the postage.

I have the lock reinstalled and working thanks to FlatHeadCoupe. He cut a key from the code on the lock and it was the same as the ignition key. His key worked fine in the ignition but not the door. I sent him the lock and he disassembled it, cleaned out internal dirt and corrosion, reassembled, and sent it back to me. He was very responsive, quick with his work, and reasonably priced. If you need key or lock work, John McClure is the guy. His contact info is in post #11. Thanks John.
