Default Trunk key stopped working

Just washed my 1941 Business Coupe, started to open the trunk, and the key wouldn't turn. Tried lots of combinations, held key as high in the lock as possible, as low, as far in, as far out.

Any thoughts on how to get the trunk open?

Should have seen this coming. Sometimes had to jiggle the key to make it work.

"IF' you can get into the trunk you can open it from inside. I had to cut mine off with a saw, when mine went bad on our '41'

I have a cut down key I leave in the unlocked position, I only have to grab the handle and twist to get in. I did notice some of my trunk keys work better than others.

You might want to take a look at your key.It might be worn down too much.
Hopefully you have a spare. Just a thought.

After LOTS of key manipulation, I finally got the trunk open. I took a cue from you and left the key in the handle unlocked. Don't want to go through that again.

I don't see any 1941 trunk lock cylinders for sale but I so see a 1940 trunk lock cylinder for sale in the Bob Drake catalog.

Anyone know if that will work in the 1941 as well? They both use the same key blank so I'm hopeful the same cylinder will work as well.

Shoot some lubricant into the key hole. I had this problems with my everyday truck and shooting some WD40 into the keyhole temporarily fixed it. Use something better than WD40 as it is not really the proper stuff to use.

I have several in stock; the later version that allows the key to be removed in locked or un-locked position. $30.00 plus shipping.

In a 41 the trunk key and glove box key should be the same. Does the key work in the glove box? If so then the problem is in the trunk lock and some WD 40 should loosen up the pins.

For locks I use "Lock-Ease" which has a combination of oil and graphite. Works excellent and lasts a long time.

Good point. I tried WD-40 but that didn't seem to do the trick. It's a Ford Special so it doesn't have a glove box lock. Seems like one tooth on the key isn't engaging correctly but as you may see, I'm ordering a new cylinder from FlatHeadCoupe.

Brad,
Did you get my previous PMs with my address, and requesting yours for shipment? I'm concerned that my messaging is not working.

Hi John, sorry about that. Your messaging is working. I got wrapped up with out-of-town guests and just didn't check my messages for a couple of days.

Got the new lock cylinder from John installed. Works great. One down on the punch list, ninety-nine to go.
