clinch nuts
Can anyone help me with the right way to install clinch nuts to bolt on the dash rail of a pick up truck? I just bought new ones and I am not sure how to install. Thanks Much

Re: clinch nuts
Take a piece of 1/4 or 3/8" flat iron around 5" or so long to back-up the clinch nut & clamp it to the dash rail with C clamps & U can rivet the nut with a ball peen hammer.

Re: clinch nuts
I use my 4X rivet gun and a mushroom set with a bucking bar that will fit behind the nut. Several "taps" and the job is done. Gar Williams

The dash is pretty easy to get a backing block and peen the surface. A good hit with the right hammer (it is good to have a collection of odd hammers). A big C clamp and ball bearing can work too supposedly. If you have two people, one can back the nut while the other holds a large ball bearing (pinball works and I have lots of them) and wacks it. You could just tack them in place with a welder too. Just be sure they are below the metal. I did this on a couple since it was just easiest to do without help I did not have at the moment. Lots of good solutions, you are only limited by resources and creativity. |
