1931 Seat Frame
I need to make a seat frame for a late 1931 pick up truck. Can anyone tell me how tall it is at the front and at the rear? A new one is just a little pricey.
Thanks Walter |

Re: 1931 Seat Frame
I have a seat frame from a late 1931 Coupe. I think they are the same but if not they are pretty close.
In front it measures 3 1/4" from floor to top of rail and a hair under 3" from floor to top of seat frame near the centerline of the car. In the rear it measures 1 1/4" from floor to top of rail. If this frame will do you any good, you can have it for the cost of shipping. Send me a private message with your address if you do. |

Re: 1931 Seat Frame
Walter,
Over the years, 1929-1931, the height of the front, (highest part of the front seat upholstery), measured from floor board to top of upholstery, varied from approximately a little over 10" to a little over 14", as indicated in the 1955, 5-1/2" x 8-1/2", "Ford Model A Restorarion Manual, A-1". (A copy of which can be bought from vendors). However, if I were you, I would make an adjustable wood seat first; second, try different heights, & lastly, make it such that the height is where you or any other drivers feel the most comfortable. |

Re: 1931 Seat Frame
there is not enough room in a closed cab pick up for and ajustable seat unless you are pretty small. you need to find the right set up for it.

Re: 1931 Seat Frame
The late 31 pick-up riser was different than the earlier ones. I can measure it up and post the info later tonight.

Re: 1931 Seat Frame
Thanks,
Cool Hand thanks for the offer but I will pass. I have purchased a very nice 31 truck seat that has been completely restored. Looks Great. And has the seat frame also. 31APickup thanks for the drawing I will put it in my files. I try to make all the parts that I can. I have acess to a fabrication shop so making parts is a breeze. Check my main pass time on youtube. The link is below. Walter https://www.youtube.com/user/TheIronshaper |

Re: 1931 Seat Frame
Glad you found exactly what you need. It is pretty common for me to find old car guys among old tractor guys and old gun guys. Somebody always knows somebody else who has stuff. Contacts are great!
I don't get into tractors but I do have a shortened Model T front axle that looks like it was made for a tractor converson if you need one. |

Re: 1931 Seat Frame
Thanks for the drawning 31Apickup. I made the frame this morning. Can anyone give me dimensions to the seat wood and the back of the seat wood? The seat I was going to use was from a hot rod and was not going to work with out using a shoe horn. Just to big. No room for me. So I will just make the seat from scratch. Here is a link to me youtube slide show of my progress. Keep in mind that I am repairing this truck to drive and have fun with. Make it safe and look nice.
